General Artist Tips

Using 14" Brush Holders:
Here is a clever idea from Janice Stutts of Colorado. By pulling the cord, which she attached to a Tupperware Spice Container, she can raise her brushes to the top of the SunEden Brush Holder rather than turning the Brush Holder over to retrieve brushes.

Cut a small hole in the bottom of the Spice Container, thread a piece of cord through it from the top and tie a knot under the Spice Container. Run the cord up the tube and through one of the holes on the side of the Brush Holder. Thread the cord through the top of the Brush Holder from the topside and secure the end with a drawstring holder like you often see on jacket and sweatshirt hoods. The cord keeps the top from getting lost.

Thanks for the tip, Janice!

A Tip for All Plein Air Painters
A sheet of the fabric softener "Bounce" pinned to your shirt will keep insects away from your face.

Flopping Support Arms?
Support arms on your Artist's Shelf "flopping all around" when you pick it up? A bungee cord wrapped around the arms and Shelf will conveniently solve the problem.

Joyce from Denver says that she uses Velcro to keep the arms on the bottom of the Artist's Shelf from opening during transport. Her picture is to the right. A piece of self-stick Velcro can be used on the shelf. Leave the protective paper on the Velcro that goes over the arm or buy a piece without sticky backing for the top piece. Thanks for the tip, Joyce!

Paper Towel Attachment to Artist Shelf
When painting in the field connect a short bungee cord across the bottom of the Artist's Shelf between the hooks on the underside of the Shelf. Cut a roll of paper towels in half with a bread knife so that it is about the same size as a toilet paper roll. Thread the bungee cord through the roll and you will have paper towels to unroll from under the Shelf whenever you need them. I leave the roll on the bottom of the Shelf even when I pack the Shelf away. By the way, Viva Paper Towels are the best that I have found. They are very soft and absorbent and as good as a paint rag and better than Kleenex tissues.

We would love to hear about ideas that work for you.

We who live in climates where the weather is often uncomfortable in the winter for plein air painting are getting excited! The days are longer, the temperatures are starting to warm, a few birds are beginning to sing, and there is a change in the light. Can spring be far behind?

When spring has sprung and the grass has ris', I'm off to paint as I love this biz!

"Happy Painting from all of us at Sun-Eden Artists' Gear."
